Winter came here a few weeks ago, which meant no more fresh garden mint for my favourite kombucha: Lime Mint Ginger Kombucha. Since then, I have been on the look out for a new second ferment flavour. Our freezer has an abundance of raspberries, my husband’s favourite, but I prefer something with a little more spice. Today, I may have found my winter favourite. I had my first taste of Apple Spice Kombucha!
The spices; cinnamon, cloves and allspice definitely meet my preference for “spicey” they are also sweet and warming. Perfect to accompany christmas carols and the snowy cold weather.
Apple Spice Kombucha is one of the many delicious finds in Jennifer McGruthers traditional foods recipe book, The Nourished Kitchen (you can get it here). If you have yet to get Jenny’s book you can follow this recipe for Cinnamon Spice Kombucha from Jenny. To make Apple Spice Kombucha substitute 1 tsp whole cloves and 1 tsp allspice berries for the ginger.
